The story of how the Shpoler Zeide exchanged places with a Jewish prisoner, donned a bear suit, and outdanced an outstanding Cossack dancer is well known. Later on, when he settled in Shpoleh and his greatness became known, people from far and near would come to spend a Shabbos with him and watch his dancing on Friday night, becoming inspired to come closer to Hashem. One of these visitors was the Mezritcher Maggid's son, Reb Avrohom Hamalach, who asked, "Where did you learn how to dance like this?" The Zeide replied, "Eliyahu Hanavi instruced me to don the bear suit, and he taught me how to dance."
This comprehensive biography of the Shpoler Zeide in English comes as the inaugural volume of the Early Chassidic Masters series.
