Tracing the origins of the Lubavitch movement
The Lubavitcher Rebbe’s Memoirs reveal an interesting and hitherto little-known chapter in the early history of Chasidism, and Jewish life in the 17th and 18th centuries in general. They portray a gallery of the early pioneers of the Chasidic spirit and way of life which cannot fail to be inspiring.
Throughout the pages, we follow closely behind a young man named Baruch, who would later become the father of R. Schneur Zalman of Liadi, founder of the Chabad-Lubavitch Movement. Orphaned at a young age, Baruch wanders in search of a suitable way to serve G-d. At times, we witness incidents that occur in Baruch’s own life; at others, we join him in listening to captivating stories and historical episodes told to him by a variety of personalities. Both experiences serve as inspiration to young Baruch.
For the present edition, the following enhancements have been made, allowing the reader to better appreciate the gems within:
· The text has been corrected and given an aesthetic facelift, presented in a fresh, easy-to-read typeface.
· Notes compiled by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, which had previously been published as endnotes have now been placed as footnotes to the text where they apply.
· Various uncommon Yiddish words have been translated to Hebrew in numbered footnotes.
· The page numbers of the previous edition appear in the margins for referencing.
· An elegant slipcase makes this set a perfect gift.
