Narrated By: Levi Goldstein
Upon assuming the role of Rebbe after the passing of his saintly father, the Rebbe Rashab, The Frierdiker Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Schneerson immediately engaged himself in continuing the spreading of the learning of Torah and the practice of the Mitzvos.
This was, of course, a very dangerous mission. Relentlessly he withstood all the challenges and difficulties posed by the Stalinist Russian government. In spite of life-threatening conditions, he fearlessly continued his sacred mission of bringing the spirit of Torah and Mitzvos to the masses in general, and to the youth in particular.
Fearlessly, he led the underground Jewish resistance movement against Stalin`s regime. For this, he was arrested and mercilessly thrown into prison where he was brutally tortured and even sentenced to death.
With the Mercy of Hashem, on the 12th day of Tammuz, his 47th birthday, he was miraculously saved and his life was spared from his cruel captors in a most victorious and triumphant manner.
