Beginning in 1964--and in memory of his mother`s passing--the Rebbe regularly devoted a portion of his almost weekly public addresses to discussing some aspect of Rashi`s commentary on the Torah portion. The Rebbe continued his Rashi talks throughout the rest of his life. These novel and innovative studies of Rashi, the 11th century master Bible commentator, developed over the years into an entire body of work which, in effect, revolutionized Bible and Rashi study.

The last decade has witnessed a significant resurgence of interest in the Rebbe`s Torah among many Jews, including those who study it through the various English translations of the Rebbe`s work. In the English compilation of Studies in Rashi one of the greatest scholarly innovations of the Rebbe-the "Rashi Studies" will bring these brilliant insights to a whole new generation of readers and students.

The Rashi Talks have been translated and annotated by the Chabad Research Center, and will appear in print alongside the vocalized Hebrew text, with copious footnotes and indexes.
